Studio Operations Director

About Us:
R. Nickson Interiors is a full-service interior design firm specializing in high-end residential and boutique commercial projects. We are growing quickly and are looking for a highly organized, proactive individual to become the operational backbone of our creative studio.

Position Overview:
The Director of Business & Studio Operations will work directly with the Founder/Creative Director as the "Implementor" of the company's vision. You will turn ideas into action, oversee business operations, manage systems and processes, support the design team, and drive sustainable growth. You are the buffer between leadership and the team, a data-driven decision-maker, a master organizer, and a strategic sounding board.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Operations & Management

  • Turn strategic ideas and goals into executable project plans and timelines

  • Establish, document, and continuously improve company processes and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)

  • Oversee project management systems (Google Drive, Dubsado, DesignFiles) to ensure deadlines and deliverables are met

  • Organize and lead weekly operations meetings with team members

  • Analyze project profitability, timelines, budgets, and client satisfaction

  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training for new team members

  • Conduct employee performance reviews and ongoing feedback sessions

  • Manage vendors, contractors, and outsourcing partners

Financial & Project Oversight

  • Track key KPIs, budgets, and client project financials in collaboration with the Creative Director

  • Ensure accurate reporting and forecasting for projects, pipelines, and business growth

  • Help streamline billing, invoicing, and workflow between departments

Client & Team Relations

  • Act as a first line of support for internal team questions and client process concerns

  • Maintain strong client communication standards across the firm

  • Ensure client experience aligns with the R. Nickson Interiors brand at every touchpoint

Vision Support & Growth Strategy

  • Be a strategic advisor and sounding board to the Creative Director

  • Offer feedback on how ideas can be executed efficiently

  • Identify bottlenecks or opportunities for growth, improvement, and scaling the business

  • Support marketing and branding efforts, as needed, through project management of initiatives

Skills & Experience Needed:

  • 5+ years of experience in operations, business management, project management, or studio management, preferably in interior design, architecture, construction, or other creative service industries

  • Strong background working with growing companies or entrepreneurial brands

  • Expertise or familiarity with Google Suite, project management tools (Dubsado, DesignFiles), and CRM or client portal systems

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and resourceful

  • Analytical mindset with an ability to problem-solve quickly and independently

  • Excellent communicator, both written and verbal

  • Leadership qualities — ability to inspire and manage a team while maintaining high performance and morale

  • Comfortable working in a creative, fast-paced environment where priorities can shift

Bonus Skills:

  • Experience with luxury or boutique branding

  • Basic understanding of interior design process or project-based service businesses
